No less than six Barking Abbey players have been named to the final 12 Great Britain Under-20 Men heading to the Division B European Championships in Romania.
Current student-athletes Amin Adamu, Obi Agu, Jubrile Belo and RJ Eytle-Rock, along with alumni Josh Steel and Akwasi Yeboah have all made the final selection after the squad finished their preparation.
“We’re very proud of all 6 players on an individual basis, it’s a great achievement for every one of them,” BA Director Mark Clark commented.
“They should very proud of becoming GB internationals. From a programme perspective, it’s a great example of why the BA model works; it was set up to develop international players and that is exactly what we are doing.”
Adamu, Agu and Eytle-Rock were a part of the title winning Kent Crusaders Division 2 Men’s side this season, whilst Belo represented Barking Abbey in Division 4. All players were instrumental in the school’s undefeated season in the EABL Under-19 competition.
Yeboah and Steel graduated from BA in 2015 with full athletic scholarships to NCAA Division 1 schools in the US; Yeboah at Stony Brook and Steel at Duquesne.
Additionally, BA’s Lloyd Gardner is an assistant coach with the Under-20 side.
GB Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas’ squad finished with a 2-3 record in preparation, picking up wins against Belarus and Hungary.
The side opens the Division B European Championships on Friday evening against the Netherlands. As well as Netherlands, they are drawn in Group B along with Russia, Azerbaijan, and Slovak Republic, as the team will be aiming for promotion to Division A.
