Five Barking Abbey players have been named across the latest Great Britain Under-18 Men’s and Women’s squads announced following their opening training camp in Leicester this weekend.
Pierce Maslen, Josh Ogundele, Teresa Da Silva, Charlotte Ellmore, and Zoe Willis have been named in the respective Under-18 men’s and women’s squads.
Both Maslen, Ogundele and Ellmore are hoping to make the step up from the Under-16s, where they represented England at the European Championships last season, whilst Da Silva and Willis will be hoping to make the European Championship squad for the first time.
The boys, coached by Alan Keane, be battling for a spot in the last 12 to compete in Tallinn, Estonia for the Division B campaign from July 28 – August 6, whilst the girls will be aiming for a spot in Vanessa Ellis’ final 12 to compete in Ireland for the Division B campaign from August 4-13.
“I’m really pleased to see more BA players make National Team squads,” said Barking Abbey Director Mark Clark.
“Pierce is one the most hard working players we have had. In everything he does he commits 100%, and in my opinion he has a potential pro player mentality. Josh could still be anything; he has only scratched the surface of his potential. Both are National Team players for the future with the seniors.
“On the girls, they are all WBBL experienced. All three are going against quality seniors every week and all 3 have NCAA D1 level potential; Vanessa has the opportunity to use 3 WBBL guards who should average over 20 minutes per game next season.
“I am confident that all 5 have a very good chance at being involved in the final selection.”
