Four Barking Abbey players past and present have been selected in the final 12 for the GB Under 20 Women’s squad ahead of their departure for warm-up tournaments in Hungary and Greece, and the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championships in Israel.

Current student athletes Chloe Gaynor, Abigail Johnson, and Imani Whittington, along with alumnus Shanice Norton, now at Louisiana State University, have all made the final cut to represent Great Britain at the European Championship.

Two further BA players, Abby Lowe and Megan Sheret were involved with training camp but unable to make the final squad.

“We’re delighted for the BA players making the squad,” said BA Director Mark Clark. “Also very pleased to see Abby and Megan do well at camp and I’m sure they will part of GB plans for the future.

“I’m hopeful that the team will do well and that all BA players will be able to help towards a successful tournament.”

GB U20 Women’s Head Coach, Jose Maria Buceta, commented:

“We’ve had a very productive camp in Manchester. Huge thanks to all the players for their hard work and commitment, especially the ones who have missed out on the final squad. Their contribution to the team was outstanding and pushed everyone to higher levels of performance. We now head to Hungary and Greece in good shape and eager to put in action all the things we’ve worked on in the camp.”

The squad opens the Europeans on July 8 in Israel against Ireland, as they will be hoping for promotion back to Division A.
