The 2011 graduating class of Barking Abbey Academy boasts a number of students bound for the United States.
Keelan Cairns and Simeon Esprit are on their way to Ivy League University of Pennsylvania. The Barking Abbey pair impressed Penn Head Coach Jerome Allen and managed to achieve the extremely high academic standards to gain a place at the prestigious University. The basketball program has a demanding schedule in the pairs freshman year as they face off against Pittsburgh and travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium to play Duke in January.
Christina Gaskin has accepted a place at Fordham University in New York. Christina was heavily recruited and chose Fordham over a number of other top level Division1 schools. The England Junior International should get playing time as a freshman for new Fordham Head Coach Stephanie Gaitley, as they try and rebuild the great tradition of Fordham basketball in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Maise Elston has chosen to go to Houston Baptist University in Texas. Maise will attend the Division 1 school after another strong year at Barking Abbey and with Sevenoaks. Houston Baptist will be looking for Maise to continue to shoot the ball and extend the defense as they look to increase the profile of their program.
Rosie Hynes has been recruited by Troy University in Alabama. Head coach, Mike Murphy, has been aware of the Barking Abbey program for the last few years paying a visit to Barking in 2009. Rosie impressed him in her performances for the National Team and during the National League season and will make the trip from Manchester to the deep south to start what is expected to be a successful college career.
Bisera Peshkova is headed to Central Arizona Junior College. Bisera, originally from Bulgaria has been able to successfully complete her A Level courses at Barking Abbey in her second language. She follows in the footsteps of former Barking Abbey WNBL player Natalie Stafford who is also Central Arizona Alum before Natalie went on to Oregon University to complete her four years in the States a route that Bisera is attempting to replicate.
Sam Dunscombe has chosen to attend Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Alabama. After attending a number of exposure events towards the end of last season in the States, Sam felt that the junior college would give him the best option in the short term.
Louis Annan will be spending a year at West Oaks Prep School in Florida to increase his recruiting options. After staring for the Barking Abbey division four mens team last year, Louis is hoping to complete his higher education in the States.
