Barking Abbey’s Jubrile Belo has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Lamar Community College on a full athletic scholarship for the 2017-18 season.

Belo joined BA for a prep-year in an effort to develop his game and land a scholarship to further his education and basketball career – after two years at Havering College under Kenrick Liburd, who has recently returned to BA’s coaching staff.

“Firstly, I want to thank everyone around me for supporting me, helping me work hard and just being there through the tough times,” Belo said.

“I feel so blessed with this opportunity and I cannot wait to prove myself. In the last 10 months I have gone through so many challenges which I’ve had to overcome and in addition have boosted my mentality.

“Special thanks to my old Coach Kenrick (Liburd) as I wouldn’t be in this position without his help. Coach (James) Vear for his wise words of wisdom and Coach Lloyd (Gardner) for teaching the small details of basketball.

“Also shout out to the entire BA family, love for helping me grind, chapter two is up next for all of us.”

The 6’9″ athletic forward has been an asset for the Division 4 squad, and averaged 8.6 points, 9 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1 block per game whilst helping BA to the 2017 EABL National Championship.

“It’s a fantastic achievement,” said BA Director of Operations Lloyd Gardner.

“Jubrile has been a real major player with our D4 team, came in with limited experience but he’s proven himself week on week. He’s also had good performances in the EABL.

“He’s a late bloomer, and Lamar will be getting a fine pick up of a player, who is very much on his upward curve, improving and has a chance to get really good.”

Lamar Community College Head Coach Sercan Fenerci added:

“Jubrile is an athletic forward who finishes around the rim, great shot blocker, and runs the floor very well. He is the type of player who plays with a lot of energy and is a true team player. We are thrilled to have him in our roster.”
