Barking Abbey’s Naomi McKenzie has signed to NJCAA school Highland Community College for the 2017-18 season.
McKenzie was instrumental with Barking Abbey’s Division 1 and WEABL squads this season, after having returned for a third year.
“My experience at BA was testing; emotionally, physically and mentally but I have no regrets,” McKenzie said. “It’s made me a better player, off and on the court.
“I thank God for bringing me this far. I thank all the coaches at BA for sowing in to my life, including Karen Burton; for allowing me to have the best season yet. I thank all my team mates, for an unforgettable journey.
“Shoutout to my previous Coaches for having a huge part to play in my journey: Paul, Michelle, Caroline and Diana. Lastly my family – brothers, sisters, cousins, my Nan and especially my mother Carol McKenzie – you’ve been my rock.
“I look forward to the next chapter in the states, stay tuned. Who knows what the future holds?!”
Barking Abbey Director Mark Clark commented:
“We’re really pleased for Naomi. She made a hard decision to stay an extra year to achieve her goals of college in the USA and she has done tremendously well to get this opportunity that I know she will make the most of. It is always about taking responsibility and she has done that.”
